SUMMARY:Civil Dialogue on AI and Health Care
DESCRIPTION:With a trained facilitator\, volunteers will consider a provocative statement on AI’s role in determining health care. \nThey will then embody a position ranging from “agree strongly” to “disagree strongly\,” allowing us to connect with differing views and practice intentional listening. SUMMARY:Department of Translational Neurosciences. Special Guest Seminar
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPresenter\n\n\n\n\n \nFranziska Auer\, PhD\nPostdoctoral Fellow\, Neuroscience Institute\nNYU Grossman School of Medicine\, NY \n\n\n\n\nTitle\n\nAuditory Processing and Modulation in the Auditory Cortex\n\nBiosketch\nDr. Franziska Auer is a postdoctoral fellow at the Neuroscience Institute at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. She earned her BSc in Pharmaceutical Sciences and her PhD in Systemic Neurosciences from Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich\, Germany. During her doctoral research\, Dr. Auer used longitudinal in vivo imaging in zebrafish to uncover mechanisms regulating myelin sheath length\, stability\, and patterning\, including identifying axonal Neurofascin clusters as key determinants of node of Ranvier positioning and myelin growth. In her postdoctoral work in the Schoppik Lab at NYU\, Dr. Auer studies how myelination shapes circuits and behavior. Her current work examines how hypomyelination affects balance behaviors\, eye movements\, and vestibular circuit function in zebrafish\, demonstrating that myelination differentially shapes distinct neural circuits and behaviors across development. Dr. Auer is the recipient of multiple honors\, including the NIH NIDCD Pathway to Independence Award (K99/R00). Her long-term goal is to establish an independent research program investigating the bidirectional interactions between myelin and neural circuits during maturation\, with implications for demyelinating diseases. \nTNS Host: Ebenezer Yamoah\, PhD\, Professor \nFor additional information\, please contact Deborah Benoit. \n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTuesday\, January 20th\n\n10:00 am – 11:00 am\n\nIn Person\n\nHealth Sciences Education Building (HSEB)

SUMMARY:Department of Translational Neurosciences - Fall 2025 Seminar Series
DESCRIPTION:Dissecting the Synaptic Basis of Learning In Vivo\n\nCurrently a postdoctoral fellow mentored by Dr. Takaki Komiyama at the University of California\, San Diego\, Dr. Wright investigates how natural activity patterns shape various forms of synaptic plasticity and how this plasticity in turn reorganizes neural circuits to mediate learning. Prior to joining the Komiyama lab\, he received his PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Pittsburgh\, where he worked with Dr. Yan Dong to study the synaptic mechanisms that underlie the natural dynamics of drug-associated memories. Dr. Wright’s long-term goal is to understand how the brain adaptively encodes information to shape behavior in both health and disease\, and he is particularly interested in understanding how lower-level modifications\, such as changes in synaptic function\, drive higher-level adaptations in circuit function to obtain a comprehensive mechanistic understanding of how the brain adaptively controls behavior. \n  \n  \nWednesday\, December 3rd \n3:00 pm – 4:00 pm \nIn Person or Virtual \nHealth Science Education Building (HSEB)\, B202 Seminar Room
