Each webinar is offered at no charge and approved for one continuing education credit. \nThursday\, July 31st \n12:00 pm – 1:00 pm \nVirtual

SUMMARY:Water Talks — Water and Weight Control: What is the Evidence?
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we explore the connection between water intake and weight control. \nThere is a lack of practical and effective strategies to manage hunger and adhere to a weight management intervention\, and this presents a critical barrier to the weight management field. Proof-of-concept studies demonstrate that pre-meal water consumption acutely reduced perceived hunger and meal energy intake among middle-aged and older adults\, resulting in an increased amount of weight loss after 12 weeks. Discover what is currently known about water intake\, hydration status\, and weight control. \nWater Talks attendees can earn one continuing education unit for the American College of Sports Medicine\, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics via the Commission on Dietetic Registration\, and the National Athletic Training Association via the Board of Certification. \n  \nWednesday\, August 13th \n10:00 am – 11:00 am \nVirtual

SUMMARY:Incorporating Technology into Hydration Self-Assessments
DESCRIPTION:  \nMitchell Zaplatosch is an assistant professor and registered dietitian at Kennesaw State University. In this role\, he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses focusing on nutrition and performance\, exercise physiology\, and statistics for exercise science. He completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in diet and exercise from Iowa State University\, where he worked as a personal trainer and sports nutrition intern. He completed his dietetic training at the Edward Hines\, Jr. VA Hospital in Illinois. He received his PhD in exercise physiology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with an emphasis on hydration physiology. His dissertation focused on the relationships between habitual fluid intake and indicators of stress and energy balance. He has published several papers on hydration and thermal physiology and delivered several presentations on hydration physiology and behaviors at the regional and national level. His current research focuses on identifying and assessing strategies to improve dietary behaviors for metabolic health and performance\, including strategies to improve hydration status. \n  \nTuesday\, September 30th \n10:00 am – 11:00 am \nVirtual

SUMMARY:Water Talks - Rehydration During Endurance Exercise: Challenges\, Research\, Options\, Methods
DESCRIPTION:  \nThis presentation considers the detrimental effects of substantial fluid–electrolyte perturbations during endurance exercise and sport\, as well as methods by which athletes and recreational enthusiasts can minimize performance decrements and illness. This is important because an adult can lose 11 to 12% of body weight during an Ironman triathlon in a cool environment\, lose 14 to 18% during day-long walking or hiking in a desert environment\, and gain more than 10% of body weight during an ultraendurance triathlon if fluid intake is excessive. Thus\, the goal of rehydration during endurance exercise should be to maintain a rehydration middle ground that avoids illness due to overhydration and sustains exercise performance by avoiding significant dehydration. Attendees can also earn one continuing education unit for the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)\, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) via the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)\, and the National Athletic Training Association (NATA) via the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer (BOC). \n  \nThursday\, October 2nd \n10:00 am – 11:00 am \nIn Person or Virtual \n850 PBC – Rm 255
