DESCRIPTION:Presenter\n\n\n\n\n\nPeter Tontonoz\, MD\, PhD\nDistinguished Professor\, Frances and Albert Piansky Chair\nDepartments of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and Biological Chemistry\nDavid Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA \n\n\n\n\nPeter Tontonoz is the Frances and Albert Piansky Endowed Chair and Distinguished Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and of Biological Chemistry at UCLA. Dr. Tontonoz received his B.A. from Wesleyan University and his MD. and PhD from Harvard Medical School. \nDr. Tontonoz’s laboratory endeavors to understand regulatory pathways that govern cholesterol\, fatty acid and phospholipid metabolism. His work has helped to reveal fundamental mechanisms by which animals maintain cellular and whole-body lipid homeostasis. SUMMARY:Department of Translational Neurosciences. Special Guest Seminar
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPresenter\n\n\n\n\n \nFranziska Auer\, PhD\nPostdoctoral Fellow\, Neuroscience Institute\nNYU Grossman School of Medicine\, NY \n\n\n\n\nTitle\n\nAuditory Processing and Modulation in the Auditory Cortex\n\nBiosketch\nDr. Franziska Auer is a postdoctoral fellow at the Neuroscience Institute at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. She earned her BSc in Pharmaceutical Sciences and her PhD in Systemic Neurosciences from Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich\, Germany. During her doctoral research\, Dr. Auer used longitudinal in vivo imaging in zebrafish to uncover mechanisms regulating myelin sheath length\, stability\, and patterning\, including identifying axonal Neurofascin clusters as key determinants of node of Ranvier positioning and myelin growth. In her postdoctoral work in the Schoppik Lab at NYU\, Dr. Auer studies how myelination shapes circuits and behavior. Her current work examines how hypomyelination affects balance behaviors\, eye movements\, and vestibular circuit function in zebrafish\, demonstrating that myelination differentially shapes distinct neural circuits and behaviors across development. Dr. Auer is the recipient of multiple honors\, including the NIH NIDCD Pathway to Independence Award (K99/R00). Her long-term goal is to establish an independent research program investigating the bidirectional interactions between myelin and neural circuits during maturation\, with implications for demyelinating diseases. \nTNS Host: Ebenezer Yamoah\, PhD\, Professor \nFor additional information\, please contact Deborah Benoit. \n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTuesday\, January 20th\n\n10:00 am – 11:00 am\n\nIn Person\n\nHealth Sciences Education Building (HSEB)

SUMMARY:Pregnancy\, Parenthood\, and Pediatrics Conference
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nPregnancy\, Parenthood\, and Pediatrics: Advancing Mental Health for Women & Children is a one-day interdisciplinary conference that will empower primary and behavioral healthcare providers to confidently care for their perinatal\, child\, and adolescent patients living with psychiatric disorders. \nThis conference is being held due to the alarming shortage of psychiatrists\, psychologists\, social workers\, and other mental health specialists for perinatal and pediatric patients in need. With one in five women in the U.S. suffering from maternal mental health complications\, including addiction\, and with one in five youth between ages 3-17 in the U.S. suffering from an emotional\, developmental\, or behavioral disorder\, there is a significant mismatch between need and availability of care – with the need to empower more providers to care for these vulnerable populations. \n  \nSaturday\, January 17th \n8:00 am – 3:30 pm \nIn Person \nHacienda del Sol Guest Ranch Resort
