SUMMARY:Health Talks — Too Hot to Handle: Extreme Heat and Drug-Related Risks
DESCRIPTION:In 2024\, substance use — often meth\, fentanyl or alcohol use — contributed to 58% of heat-related deaths in Maricopa County\, according to the preliminary heat-related deaths report from the Maricopa County Department of Public Health. Extreme heat can amplify the effects of both prescribed and illicit drugs\, especially for people without access to adequate air conditioning or stable housing. \nJoin health experts for an illuminating webinar exploring how high temps interact with substance use to increase the risk of death\, how certain populations are more vulnerable\, and what can be done to prevent harm as our region grows hotter. \nASU’s College of Health Solutions offers its Health Talks speaker series to inspire collaboration and conversation on important topics in health. Each webinar is offered at no charge and approved for one continuing education credit. \nThursday\, July 31st \n12:00 pm – 1:00 pm \nVirtual
