SUMMARY:ASU Health Grand Rounds: Engineering Approaches to Sickle Cell Disease: Implications for Inclusive Excellence in Health
DESCRIPTION:Be part of ASU Health’s signature speaker series: Grand Rounds\, a platform for dynamic discussions on the innovations\, breakthroughs and challenges shaping the future of health. Grand Rounds brings together leading experts to explore bold ideas\, from cutting-edge research to the use of technology in improving health care at scale. \nGrand Rounds fosters collaboration\, critical thinking and the exchange of ideas among those passionate about the health and health care fields. We invite you to engage in dynamic discussions\, share perspectives and gain insights into the most pressing issues facing the health and medical landscape. All are welcome to attend and contribute. \nSickle cell disease is a debilitating genetic disorder affecting 100\,000 Americans and millions globally that induces chronic inflammation and vascular dysfunction and causes multiple organ damage. The application of engineering approaches to better understand\, treat\, manage and cure sickle cell disease has contributed to important breakthroughs and improved health outcomes for individuals living with the disease. Situated at the intersection of race\, politics\, history and health\, sickle cell disease offers a natural platform to examine inclusive excellence in health. \nThis Grand Rounds presentation\, delivered by Dr. Gilda Barabino\, professor of biomedical and chemical engineering and former president of Olin College of Engineering\, provides a window into engineering approaches to sickle cell disease and its implications from the perspective of an engineer with decades-long engagement in sickle cell research\, education and advocacy. \nAfter the keynote\, attendees are invited to join the ASU Health Impact Summit\, featuring interactive breakout sessions and opportunities for networking and discussion across ASU Health. Participants may attend the keynote only or stay for the full summit experience\, including lunch and informal networking. \n\n  \nFriday\, April 17th \n9:00 am – 10:00 am \nIn Person \nASU Mercado Building C
