Arizona, along with other states such as Texas, Alaska, and New Mexico, span large geographic areas with rural communities that struggle to attract and retain high quality health care workforce. This workshop will focus on successful translational research and successful models for healthcare workforce programs that attract, retain, and successfully deploy those who will serve in diverse underserved, rural and “healthcare desert” population areas. Such areas include reservations and border regions. The workshop will identify the characteristics and practices of programs that establish and successfully maintain pipelines, retention practices, and lasting deployment strategies for health care workforces in underserved populations.
