Empowering Future Healthcare Leaders: Mercy Care partners with PBC

Jocelyn Romero speaking to over 250 medical providers and staff at the Mercy Care Annual Providers Forum at the Double Tree in Tempe, AZ. October 15, 2024.

The Phoenix Bioscience Core (PBC), in partnership with Mercy Care, has introduced the Workforce Development Coordinator (WFD) role to enhance and expand internship and preceptorship opportunities across various fields, including nursing, behavioral health, and occupational therapy. This initiative supports universities such as Arizona State University (ASU), Northern Arizona University (NAU), and the University of Arizona (UA) in securing valuable placements for their students, ultimately addressing workforce shortages in the healthcare sector.

Recently, Jocelyn, our Workforce Development Coordinator, presented at the Mercy Care Annual Provider Forum. She engaged with providers and organizations throughout the Phoenix Metro area, highlighting the significant challenges educational programs face in securing placements for their students. Jocelyn emphasized the importance of collaboration between educational institutions and healthcare providers to cultivate a well-prepared workforce that meets the needs of our communities.

During her presentation, Jocelyn outlined the numerous benefits providers and organizations can gain from participating in internship programs, as well as the positive impacts these programs have on students. She encouraged providers and organizations to initiate discussions within their teams and open their doors to support the next generation of healthcare leaders.
