Water Talks – Heat and Hydration Issues During Extreme Exercise: The Hawaiian Ironman Experience

This talk will review the effects of under- and over-hydration on extreme endurance athletes from a clinical perspective. This talk is based on over 25 years of caring for Ironman triathletes in the medical tent at the World Championships race in Kona, HI. It will include guidelines for the proper diagnosis and treatment in the medical tent, along with tips for avoiding hydration-related issues in endurance athletes. Attendees can also earn one continuing education unit for the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) via the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR), and the National Athletic Training Association (NATA) via the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer (BOC).
